Applique Instructions

Hoop the fabric you are planning to applique. Cut a piece of stabilizer slightly
larger than your hoop, spray lightly with temporary spray adhesive, and place on
the bottom of the hoop, covering all edges of the hoop. Place hoop on firm
surface face up and smooth hooped fabric onto sprayed stabilizer with your
hand. Or use an iron-on stabilizer, covering the fabric in an area larger than your
hoop, then hoop the stabilized fabric. Depending on the weight of your garment
fabric, you may need to use another piece of tear-a-way stabilizer. Slip this piece
under your hoop before beginning to stitch.

For all Applique Material/Applique Position stitch sequences: Stitch the first
stitch sequence, Applique Material, in the color specified, or a color of your
choice. (This will show you exactly where the applique fabric will be placed.) Cut
a piece of applique fabric slightly larger than this outline stitch. Spray the back of
this fabric lightly with temporary spray adhesive and place, sticky side down, over
the outline stitching. Be sure to cover all of the outline stitching. Stitch the next
sequence, Applique Position, in the same color. (This will attach the applique
fabric to your background fabric.) Remove the hoop from your machine, but do
not remove the fabric from the hoop. Carefully cut around all this outline stitching
as close as possible, without cutting through the stitching, removing the excess
applique fabric. Put the hoop back in your machine and stitch the next stitch
sequence. Repeat these directions for all the Applique Material/Applique
Position stitch sequences in the design. Using small, sharp curved bladed
scissors gives the best results when trimming the excess applique fabric. Clip all
jump threads as you progress from color to color.

NOTE! If you wish to have a different color of applique fabric in the center of the
frame than what you have chosen for the actual frame, place both pieces of
fabric over the applique material stitching. Put the fabric you choose for the
center piece on the bottom, frame fabric on top of that. After stitching the
applique position stitch sequence follow the above steps except trim out only the
top layer of fabric in the center of the frame. Trim both layers around the outside
edges as closely as possible.
